Chennai Super Kings picked up a 28-run win over Punjab Kings at the picturesque Dharamshala Stadium on Sunday in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.
CSK put up a score of 167 for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs before limiting PBKS to a total of 139/9 to claim the win and go third in the points table as a result.
Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja shone with the bat and the ball as he top-scored for the holders with 43 runs off just 26 deliveries, before scalping three wickets to curtail the PBKS chase in the second innings.

The southpaw stated that the side was aware of the pitch being slow citing the circumstances at play.
“It was a day game, so the wicket was slow. As usual, it was expected because it was so hot,” Jadeja began.
Jadeja went on to state that the team fared well during the powerplay, but struggled to establish partnerships thereafter. He added that his role was to try and build partnerships before cutting loose towards the end of the innings.
“We had a good powerplay but did not get partnerships in the middle overs. I was trying to build a good partnership to then tee off at the end,” he said.
“My role as a batter is to build partnerships and then play the big shots towards the end,” he added.
He touched upon the need for momentum during games and that a side needs to do well across the multiple phases of the game to pick up the points.
“Sometimes, when we lose wickets in the powerplay, we do not get momentum. In the matches we win, we play all phases well,” he asserted.
Tushar Deshpande scaled two overseas players in Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw, who had headlined PBKS’s successful chase at Chepauk in the previous fixture before the spinners took control of the game with Jadeja striking thrice with the leather.
“The fast bowlers bowled well in the powerplay. Tushar got two important wickets and then Mitch and I did the job in the middle overs,” he said.
“The pitch always seems flat in the powerplay. But when the ball gets old, the ball does not always come on,” he continued.
Jadeja explained the challenges of playing at new venues but appreciated the bowling unit for rising up to the difficulties and choking the flow of runs in the middle overs.
“When playing at a new venue, you don’t know how much it will turn or stop. We thought we were 15-20 runs short but we did not bowl loose balls in the powerplay and the middle overs,” he signed off.
