Rohit Sharma Yet to Reach Dharamsala, Likely to Arrive on Tuesday Morning
Both captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid are likely to attend an event in Bilaspur in the morning and will most likely skip team’s first practice session in Dharamsala

India captain Rohit Sharma is yet to reach Dharamsala and is likely to arrive in the morning hours of Tuesday (March 5). Rest of the team has already assembled in Dharamsala and will have their first practice session in the afternoon tomorrow.

Upon arrival, it is understood that captain Rohit and coach Rahul Dravid will be attending an event in Bilaspur. The duo, along with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, will be present at the inauguration of the third edition of Khel Mahakhumbh.

A senior Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) official said both captain and coach will be leaving for Bilaspur around 11 am and are unlikely to attend the team’s training session.

When contacted, a senior Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official didn’t confirm or deny the participation in the event tomorrow but HPCA official insisted that captain and coach will grace the event.

Both India and England were scheduled to train on Monday too but heavy rains in the region didn’t allow the teams to hit the ground. Preparations were underway in the practice area of the HPCA stadium and while the outfield was dry, there were wet patches in the practice area.

After the break, both India and England reached Dharamsala on March 3 via a private charter from Chandigarh for the fifth and final Test which gets underway on March 7.

India have already taken an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series following victories in Vizag, Rajkot and Ranchi. They had lost the series opener in Hyderabad following which they bounced back and extended their record of consecutive Test series wins at home to 17.

The two teams will now meet one last time in Dharamsala.

The region though received a lot of rain, including spells of hailstorm, on March 3 but the next day was off to a bright and sunny start. The warmth of the sun and clear skies allowed the outfield to dry up but there was enough dampness in the ground and practice area to keep both teams in the hotel.
