'Moaners, Crybaby Remarks...': Sunil Gavaskar Cites R Ashwin As He Launches Scathing Attack on English Media
Sunil Gavaskar launched a blistering verbal attack on air during the first day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh.

Sunil Gavaskar was in no mood to take any prisoners during his commentary stint on the Day 1 of the 2nd Test between India and Bangladesh that got underway from Friday at Kanpur’s Green Park. Gavaskar lashed out at the English media for their reporting of Indian pitches which typically help spin bowling.

The pitches for the ongoing Test series between India and Bangladesh have been praised from all quarters for offering something for everyone. In Chennai, the pacers dazzled at the beginning but the batters, if they applied themselves as shown by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, could score plenty of runs too. As the match progressed, spinners came into play as well with India winning by 280 runs to take 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.

Interestingly, Kanpur has also dished out a good surface with India pacer Akash Deep causing early damage when he got rid of both Bangladeshi openers cheaply before the middle-order began the repair work on what was a rain-curtailed day with rain allowing just 35 overs.

Gavaskar said how in the past English media complains about the type of pitches in India, calling them ‘moaners’ and ‘crybabies’ while pointing out how Ashwin showed the way to bat on such surfaces.

“He (Ashwin) actually said in a media conference that if you apply yourself, you can get a hundred. So he walked the talk against England when the moaners were going on’ Oh what kind of wicket is this, it’s no good’ etc all those regular crybaby remarks that you get to hear from the England media,” Gavaskar said.

Ashwin produced player-of-the-match award winning display in the Chennai Test as he produced a marvelous show with the bat, hitting a century which helped India out of tricky situation on a pitch that was aiding seamers early on. As the game wore on, the offspinner weaved his magic with the ball too and took a five-wicket haul in Bangladesh’s second innings to cap off a memorable performance in his hometown.
