Lucknow Super Giant head coach Justin Langer was elated to have Zaheer Khan on board. The legendary fast bowler has joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) side as the mentor. Following his appointment, Langer sent a special message to Zaheer, welcoming him to the LSG family. The Luchnow-based franchise recently dropped a video on social media where Langer could be heard branding Zaheer as “a warrior.”

“A great inclusion to the LSG team and family. Zaheer Khan, what a warrior. I used to really admire him as a player. I’ve admired him as an opponent. He’s always been one with incredible competitive spirits. Exactly the sort of attitude we want at LSG,” Justin Langer said in his video message.

Zaheer Khan ranks among the greatest fast bowlers India has ever produced. He was a key member of the Indian team that lifted the ODI World Cup in 2011 on home soil. According to Langer, the young pacers of the LSG squad are expected to improve a lot under Zaheer’s mentorship.

“He (Zaheer) is also a very humble man and it’s another trait that we’ve got at LSG. We’re delighted to have him. We can’t wait to see him work with our fast bowlers and help us build a really competitive squad to help us win the IPL next year,” the former Australian coach added.

Before signing off, Langer hoped that Zaheer would be able to make a “huge impact” on the LSG team. “I can’t wait to see Zaheer Khan. I can’t wait to see him in our colours. I can’t wait to get back involved,” the 53-year-old stated.

Zaheer Khan made his international debut in 2000 and didn’t take much time to cement his place in the Indian squad. He represented the country in 200 ODIs during his illustrious career and picked 282 wickets. Zaheer fetched 311 scalps in his 92 Test appearances. He featured in nine matches in the 2011 World Cup and took 21 wickets. The 45-year-old was earlier part of the Mumbai Indians coaching unit in the IPL.
