IPL 2024: KKR vs RR And GT vs DC Likely to be Rescheduled
The schedule of Indian Premier League 2024 is likely to undergo a minor tweak and fixtures of four teams are likely to be affected.

The schedule of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is likely to undergo a minor change as Kolkata Knight Riders’ home game vs Rajasthan Royals on April 17 is likely to be preponed.

The authorities in Kolkata are unsure of providing security for the IPL fixture at the Eden Gardens as it clashes with Rama Navami festivities.

To address the situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating swapping the April 16 and April 17 fixtures. Gujarat Titans play Delhi Capitals on April 16 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the fixture is now likely to be postponed by a day to April 17.

Instead of GT vs DC in Ahmedabad, the KKR vs RR game is now likely to be played on April 16 in Kolkata. With adequate gap in fixtures of all four teams, the minor tweak in the schedule will not be a major challenge.

The four participating teams and broadcasters have been informed about the possible swap which would address the security situation in Kolkata and also maintain the home-away format.

“Yes, April 16 game between GT and DC is likely to be swapped with April 17 game between KKR and RR. It shouldn’t be a big challenge since there is adequate spacing between fixtures of these teams and there is enough time to make the necessary changes/arrangements at the two venues,” a source close to developments tells CricketNext.

Due to the General Elections, the Indian cricket board announced the schedule of IPL in two phases. While the first phase had 21 fixtures, the remainder were announced after the Election Commission of India announced the polling dates.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator and Chennai will host Qualifier 2 and the final. The cash-rich league will culminate with the title clash on May 26.

Almost all teams have played three fixtures each and Rajasthan Royals are topping the table with an unbeaten run and Mumbai Indians are languishing at the bottom with no wins under their belt. Virat Kohli and Riyan Parag are joint-highest run-getters with 181 runs each from three games and CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman leads the Purple Cab table with seven wickets from three games.
