India Squad for Zimbabwe Tour Likely to be Picked on Sunday
Some Zimbabwe-bound India players have been asked to submit their passports and squad announcement is likely tomorrow

India’s T20I squad for the five-match series vs Zimbabwe is likely be picked by the Ajit Agarkar-led men’s senior selection committee on Sunday. An official squad announcement is likely on the same day as Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already collected passports of some Zimbabwe-bound players.

All matches of the series will be played in Harare and will feature a new-look Indian side as the regulars are likely to be rested keeping their heavy workload in mind. After a very long time, the seam department will feature plenty of left-armers and if the management decides against resting Arshdeep Singh, there could well be three left-arm quicks in the mix.

Khaleel Ahmed is already travelling with the 2024 T20 World Cup squad as a reserve and is set to find a seat on that flight to Zimbabwe. A very strong contender likely to join him on that flight is Uttar Pradesh seamer Yash Dayal, who impressed the men who matter during the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League. There are discussions around Mukesh Kumar too and the selectors are going to take the final call depending on the balance of the squad.

Avesh Khan is another certainty and the seamer too was part of the World Cup squad as a travelling reserve but was released after the US leg concluded in Florida. Like Avesh, Shubman Gill was released from the squad after India vs Canada fixture, which was washed out, and the elegant opener is unlikely to return to India and will directly link-up with the squad in Zimbabwe.

India have a packed T20 calendar in the next 12 months and are set to play as many as 20 T20Is during the period. There is a strong possibility of management resting both Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav before the tour of Sri Lanka, which gets underway later in July. If that happens, captaincy surprise is likely for the five T20Is vs Zimbabwe.

India vs Zimbabwe schedule:

July 6: India vs Zimbabwe 1st T20I in Harare

July 7: India vs Zimbabwe 2nd T20I in Harare

July 10: India vs Zimbabwe 3rd T20I in Harare

July 13: India vs Zimbabwe 4th T20I in Harare

July 14: India vs Zimbabwe 5th T20I in Harare
