Gundaru Dam attracts many tourists due to its breathtaking foothills. It is located in the Western Ghats in Sengottai, Tamil Nadu and is truly a masterpiece of nature’s beauty and human engineering as well. This marvel was established in 1983 and offers quite captivating views and serene tranquillity in the Thirunelveli Tenkasi district. However, very few might be aware of the private falls located quite close to the dam, known as Kannupulimettu Falls.
Kannupulimettu Falls is a hidden gem in the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu. From Sengottai, it is approximately six kilometres away and the best way is to get or rent your own vehicle for the journey to enjoy the picturesque landscape of the place. Also, very few public buses can be found on this route.
One of the best times to visit this place is the monsoon season as the waterfall swells, and the greenery becomes prominent. As per the information available, visitors have to pay just Rs 10 for entry here. You cannot reach the waterfalls by accessing your car. The best option is to rent a mini-truck or a jeep from Gundaru Dam, which may charge you separately to take you to the fall. The price may be around Rs 1,500.
If you are an outdoorsy person and a nature enthusiast, it is best to plan a trek to the waterfall. It will be around 1 to 1.5 kilometres from the starting point. You can find a small fish shop located near this private falls, where you can enjoy the local fish roasted to perfection, which is best paired with parotta.
During monsoon, people can take a swim here as the water is not too deep. This is a great spot for families and friends to enjoy and have leisure time together. However, keep two things in mind before you visit the place. The first thing is there is no changing room here, so be prepared for that. Also, due to the rainy season, there might be leeches. Hence, it is advisable to wear closed shoes.
