Annabhishekam is an annual event celebrated in Shiva temples during the full moon of the Aippasi month. In the Thanjavur Peruvudaiyar Temple, this ritual took place with enthusiasm on the afternoon of Saturday, October 28. Devotees generously contributed 1000 kg of rice, 750 kg of vegetables, and 150 kg of fruits. Following this, the 13-foot-tall Peruvudaiyar deity received an anointment with the swan prepared earlier in the day.

Following this, a swan was presented to Peruvudaiyar temple, adorned with an array of fruits and flowers, such as amaranth, beetroot, carrot, eggplant, cabbage, radish, parangikai, potato, apple, orange, pineapple, banana, watermelon, and various blooms. Thousands of devoted worshippers joined in this ceremony. In the evening, the decorations were taken down and shared among the devotees.

The customary Annabhishek ceremony, typically conducted in the evening, had to be rescheduled due to a lunar eclipse occurring on Saturday night. As a result, the Annabhishekam, along with the decoration and devotion of the worshippers, took place between 3 PM and 7 PM. Following this, an Arthajama Puja was observed at 8 PM in observance of the lunar eclipse.

Comparable events occurred at various Shiva temples, including those in Thanjavur and Kumbakonam. In addition, Annabishekam was carried out on the Siva Lingam at the renowned Sri Brihadeeswarar temple in Gangaikondacholapuram, Ariyalur district, on Saturday. The Mahadeeparadhana took place in the evening, during which a multitude of devotees paid their respects to the deity. Subsequently, the rice prepared for the Annabishekam was distributed as prasadam to the worshippers.

The 1,038th Sathaya Vizha in honour of Raja Raja Chola was commemorated with special ablutions (abishekam) for Peruvudaiyar and Periyanayagi, the principal deities of the 11th-century Big Temple. This celebration falls on the day of Sathayam which is the birth star of the king, during the month of Aippasi.
