Mumbai: It was a new all-time closing high for the Sensex, Nifty and CNX Midcap Index.
The Sensex closed up 66.15 points or 0.66% at 10,110.97. It touched an all-time high of 10,122.25.
The Nifty closed up 18.60 points or 0.62% at 3027.55. It touched an all-time high of 3031.75.
The CNX Midcap Index closed up 55.80 points or 1.28% at 4426.55. It touched an all-time high of 4429.30.
The BSE Small Cap Index closed up 82.65 points or 1.35% at 6,222.35. The BSE Midcap Index closed up 49.80 points or 1.05% at 4,794.39.
The BSE FMCG Index outperformed the other indices. It closed down 3.04% at 1,828.33 amid gains in HLL, Nirma, ITC, Nestle, Colgate, McDowell and P&G.
Pharma stocks including Orchid Chemical, Aventis Pharma, Ranbaxy Labs, Lupin, Novartis India, Pfizer, Nicholas Piramal and FDC also firmed up. The BSE healthcare Index closed up 2.56% at 3,614.18.
Consumer durables stocks like Titan Industries & BPL also gained. The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed up 2.43% at 3,185.28.
The BSE Capital Goods Index closed up 2.08% at 7,132.12 as stocks including Aban Loyd Chiles, BEML, Larsen, Alfa Laval, Praj Industries, Thermax, and Alstom Projects surged up.
Buying was also seen in auto, oil and select technology stocks. The BSE Auto Index closed up 0.78% at 4,735.24. The BSE Oil & Gas Index closed up 0.29% at 4,504.56. The BSE IT Index closed up 0.10% at 3,726.72.
Selling however was seen in some banking and metal stocks. The BSE Bankex closed down 0.43% at 5,232.81. The BSE Metal Index closed down 0.31% at 7,044.19.
