New Delhi: With major manufacturers announcing a price increase on various models ranging between Rs 268 to Rs 2816, the increased cess announced in this year's Budget has finally come to pinch new car buyers.
Following the suit of market leader Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL), Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has also increased the prices of its cars, leaving customers planning new purchases of popular models such as Santro, Wagon R, Alto to shell out a few extra bucks of up to Rs 562.
On account of the increased cess announced in this year's budget, Maruti on Thursday increased the price of all its models by up to Rs 1,017. A day later, HMIL has increased prices of all its car models in the range of Rs 362 to Rs 2,816.
Hyundai's flagship hatchback Santro would become costlier by Rs 362 to Rs 562. At present HMIL sells Santro's base model at Rs 2,69,999 (ex-showroom Delhi).
It's premium hatchback Getz, being sold at Rs 3,99,999 (ex-showroom Delhi), would become costlier in a range of Rs 753-Rs 923 across different variants.
Prices of MULs premium hatchback Swift have been hiked in a range of Rs 656 and Rs 818 across different variants. The base model of Swift will now cost Rs 4,68,657 as against Rs 4,68,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) earlier.
Already, MUL had hiked the prices of across all its models in a range of Rs 268 to Rs 1,017. Post price hike, the company's popular compact car Alto Lxi is being sold at Rs 2,86,277 (ex-showroom Delhi) reflecting an increase of Rs 399 while the newly launched Zen Estilo Vxi has been made expensive by Rs 519 at Rs 3,74,019.
While Maruti did not increase the prices of the base models of its popular cars (Alto and Zen Estilo), rival HMIL hiked prices of Santro across all variants.
A day after the announcement of an increased cess in this year's budget, another volumes player Tata Motors had also said it will hike prices across all models in a range of Rs 500 to Rs 1,200.
Maruti has increased the prices of its mid-sized sedan Esteem between Rs 912 to Rs 982, while Hyundai has hiked the prices of Accent by Rs 999. Post-increase Esteem's base model would cost Rs 4,79,135, while that of Accent would be available for Rs 5,32,186.
In the premium luxury segment, HMILs Sonata Embera would be costlier between Rs 2,470 to Rs 2,816. Sonata Embera's base model is being presently sold at Rs 12,95,000. The company, however, said it will not tinker the prices of its SUV Tuscon.
MULs popular Maruti 800 Std model will now be costlier by Rs 268 at Rs 1,93,914 as against Rs 1,93,646, the company said.
