World Cup 2023: Pakistan Battling Illness Ahead of Australia Game in Bengaluru
Illness disrupts Pakistan's preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup clash with Australia. Star bowler Shaheen Afridi among those affected.

Ahead of Pakistan’s crucial match against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Bengaluru, the team’s preparations have been hampered by illness in the camp with a few players down with fever, including their star bowler Shaheen Afridi.

A Pakistan Cricket spokesperson was quoted as saying “Some players got fever in the past few days and most of them have fully recovered from it. Those who are in the stage of recovery remain under the team medical panel’s observation.”

Earlier, Pakistan’s scheduled session at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium was cancelled under the pretext of allowing adequate time for rest for the players ahead of the Australia game on 20th October. However, a further statement clarified that Pakistan will have a short training session on Tuesday between 6 PM to 8 PM.

As per a report in cricketpakistan.com.pk, Abdullah Shafique is down with a fever while Shaheen Afridi and Usama Mir have recovered. Pakistan head into the Australia game on the back of a harrowing loss against India in Ahmedabad with the batting unit failing to put up a substantial total on the board at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Pakistan had a good start to their campaign with two wins in Hyderabad – against Netherlands and then Sri Lanka. Australia, on the other hand, after suffering two back-to-back losses in their first two games got off the mark with morale-boosting win over Sri Lanka by five wickets in Lucknow on Monday.
