Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that the cafe explosion was caused by a low-intensity improvised explosive device

A disturbing CCTV footage has surfaced, revealing a bustling afternoon at the popular Rameshwaram Cafe in Bengaluru just seconds before an explosion occurred, injuring nine people.

The video captures the sudden explosion, leaving at least one woman on the floor and prompting several others to flee in panic.

A fire, triggered by an explosion, was reported at the Rameshwaram cafe on Friday. The blast occurred around 1 p.m. at the Whitefield branch of the cafe in the city’s Rajajinagar.

Hours after the blast, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that someone had left a bag at the spot and the CCTV footage is being examined. The Chief Minister confirmed that the blast was caused by a low-intensity improvised explosive device.

“We have learnt that someone had kept a bag there. We are examining the CCTV footage. We are still investigating. Police is at the spot. It was a low-intensity blast,” Siddaramaiah said.

When asked about the nature of the incident as a potential terrorist act, Siddaramaiah said that it is currently unknown, and an ongoing investigation is in progress.

Siddaramaiah also stated that the incident should not be ‘politicised’, urging everyone to cooperate. He added that strict action would be taken against those involved.

Rameshwaram Cafe, one of the most popular eateries in the city, was founded in 2021 by C.A. Divya Raghavendra Rao and Raghavendra Rao. The name was chosen as a tribute to the late Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam’s birthplace.
