TV Host Suggests 'Subtle Dig' in Harry and Meghan's ‘Get Well Soon’ Message to Princess Kate

A British television news anchor claimed there was a “slight dig” in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s ‘get well soon’ message to Princess Kate released following the latter’s cancer diagnosis.

The pair released a statement where they wished “health and healing” for the Princess of Wales and said they hope that the pair “can do so privately and in peace”.

GB News America (GBN) host Nana Akua told her guest Lee Cohen that she felt that the message from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was a dig at the public.

“I thought the message was interesting because Harry and Meghan’s message was about offering health and healing. But then it felt like there was a dig about the privacy that they need themselves. I just thought I could almost hear Meghan saying unlike the privacy you gave us sort of thing. Do you know what I mean?” Akua said.

Her panellist on the show, journalist Lee Cohen, said the message shows the difference between “celebrities and public servants’.

“Truly admired public servants are the working royals versus Meghan and Harry who have become nothing but celebrity influencers,” Cohen said, referring to Harry and Meghan.

“In the United States, most people can’t even make the distinction. So that gives rise to what you’ve just underlined,” Cohen further added.

Akua said Harry and Meghan should cherish and protect the legacy of the monarchy. “The longevity of the monarchy, which is what they are both part of, is something that is to be cherished, looked after, enjoyed and respected,” she said.

Harry and Meghan fell out with the UK royal family and stepped down as senior royals in January 2020. The rift widened further following the release of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, the Netflix docudrama and their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

However, Harry has attempted to restore ties and has visited the UK to meet his father, King Charles, following the latter’s cancer diagnosis.

“I’ll stop in and see my family as much as I can,” Harry told ABC News, suggesting that he could visit more frequently.

Meanwhile, Princess Kate confirmed last Friday that she has cancer but did not say which type of cancer she has been diagnosed with just like her father-in-law.
