Cameron’s career spans various roles in both government and international development. Earlier, she served as the Chief Executive of the National Cyber Security Centre from 2020 to 2024, where she played a pivotal role in enhancing the UK’s cybersecurity infrastructure and resilience.
Before her cybersecurity leadership, Cameron held key positions within the Northern Ireland Office and the Department for International Development (DFID). As the Director-General for Country Programmes at DFID from 2016 to 2019, she oversaw strategic initiatives to advance development objectives in diverse regions across the globe.
Her extensive portfolio also includes leadership roles in conflict zones and humanitarian efforts. Cameron served as the Director of Middle East, Humanitarian, Conflict, and Security at DFID from 2014 to 2015, contributing to critical interventions in areas affected by instability and crisis.
Before her tenure at DFID, Cameron held leadership positions in joint government units, including the Joint MoD-FCO-DFID Stabilisation Unit, where she played a key role in coordinating stabilisation efforts in conflict-affected regions. Cameron’s career posting also includes significant field assignments, such as her role as Head of the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Helmand and her service as the FCO Senior Representative in Southern Afghanistan.
