The Canadian home of Inderjit Singh Gosal in Ontario province came under gunfire, the local police officials said on Monday. Gosal is a close associate of prominent US-based Khalistani separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Constable Tyler Bell-Morena said construction workers found a bullet hole in a window of the home of Inderjit Singh Gosal.
The police said there were no injuries in the shooting as the home in Brampton, Ontario is under construction and currently unoccupied. “We understand who this person is and his affiliations, but it’s just too early for us to speculate that there’s any connection to other violence and threats. We are obviously investigating it with all avenues in mind,” Bell-Morena was quoted as saying by news agency AFP.
Pannun said the incident was a “drive-by shooting”. Earlier this month, a group of people shot at the British Columbia home of Simranjeet Singh, an associate of Nijjar. Two Canadian teens have been arrested for discharging a firearm, but a motive has not been determined by police, according to Canadian media.
Both cases centre on radical Sikh separatists living abroad. Khalistani separatists have used Canadian soil to promote secessionism for several years and the Trudeau government has faced criticism for not dealing with the threat the Khalistanis pose to the Indian diaspora as well as to India’s sovereignty.
The Khalistani separatists are also closely involved with organised crime and drug syndicates and human trafficking rackets and are also funded by the Pakistan spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence for conducting anti-India activities.
The separatists have attacked members of the Indian diaspora, vandalised temples and also members of the Sikh community who do not support their fringe radical group.
The Canadian authorities have failed to take action against these groups who have openly called for violence against India and Indians and have radicalised the Sikh youth in Canada as well as in other countries like UK, US and Australia.
