Several northern regions of India, especially Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, suffered from extreme heatwave, as temperatures crossed 50 degrees Celsius. Such weather has claimed the lives of several individuals, while others are falling ill. Amidst this serious scenario, a touching video from Bulandshahr, UP, captures hearts online. The clip features a policeman’s heroic act at the local police station, as the officer was seen rescuing a lifeless monkey that had fallen from a tree, due to scorching heat. With his quick thinking, the officer performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to revive the unconscious animal.

As per The Times of India, Vikas Tomar, a head constable at Chhatari police station, took matters into his own hands to save the monkey, while veterinarian Dr Hari Om Sharma stepped in and provided antibiotics, once the animal regained consciousness. The video starts with the head constable giving CPR to an unconscious monkey. As the video progresses, Tomar can be seen pouring water on the animal to make it feel cooler. Later, the video shows Tomar holding the monkey, to help the animal stand independently. Towards the end of the clip, the monkey regains consciousness, while Tomar pours more water on it.

Speaking with the news portal, Chhatari police station’s head constable, Vikas Tomar explained, “We are trained to handle emergencies. Since the bodies of humans and monkeys are very similar, I tried to revive the monkey while my colleagues protected me from an agitated troupe. I pumped the chest for almost 45 minutes with intermittent rubbing and pouring little amounts of water into the mouth and finally it revived. The monkey comes to the police station daily and I’m happy to see him playing.”

Meanwhile, SHO Bhoopendra Singh said, “Due to excessive heat, a monkey fell from a tree and fainted. Several monkeys had gathered around and it was very hard to rescue the baby.” While Dr Hari Om Sharma added, “The monkey suffered a heat stroke and fainted due to dehydration. Timely help saved its life. After it became conscious, we administered an antibiotic.”

Due to the extreme weather conditions, people in several parts of the country are advised to drink plenty of water and stay indoors as much as possible.
