Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, leading a prominent delegation, visited India from August 19 to 21. During his stay, he and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi agreed to boost their countries’ relationship to a “comprehensive strategic partnership.” However, it wasn’t just diplomatic talks that grabbed attention. Ibrahim, who was on his inaugural visit to India as Malaysia’s Prime Minister, won hearts online when a video of him singing a classic Bollywood song surfaced. In a delightful moment captured at the Taj Hotels in Delhi, Ibrahim is seen passionately singing the classic Bollywood song, Dost Dost Na Raha, from the 1964 romantic drama, Sangam. Ibrahim crooned the song at his farewell event held at the hotel, where he stayed.
Sharing the clip on Instagram, the Taj Mahal Hotel wrote, “It was a pleasure to witness Honorable Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim showcasing his love for Bollywood music during his farewell ceremony at the iconic Taj Mahal, New Delhi.” According to a report by The Times of India, the hotel arranged a Bollywood-themed farewell after Ibrahim expressed his admiration for the Hindi film industry and Shammi Kapoor.
Ibrahim’s heartwarming performance captured the hearts of many, racking up over 15,000 views. The comment section buzzed with enthusiastic reactions from the social media users.

During their talks, Prime Ministers Modi and Ibrahim signed several agreements, including one focused on the employment and repatriation of workers and another aimed at enhancing digital technology cooperation. PM Modi emphasised the agreement on employment of workers will promote the recruitment of Indians while safeguarding their interests. He also noted that bilateral trade between India and Malaysia is now being conducted in Indian Rupees and Malaysian currency Ringgit.
The larger focus of the Modi-Ibrahim talks centered on expanding trade and investments, exploring cooperation in new and emerging areas. PM Modi also described Malaysia as an “important partner” of India in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and Indo-Pacific region. The prime minister announced plans to connect India’s UPI payment system with Malaysia’s PayNet.
