Wedding day is generally filled with excitement, anticipation and nervousness. It is the day to embrace a new chapter in one’s life. But for a Florida woman, the day was more than special and unique for her. She had planned a perfect wedding at the City Hall but looks like life had something different planned for her.
Brianna Lucca-Cerezo from Florida was eight months pregnant when she found herself in the hospital, right a day before taking her marital vows. She fell sick and was diagnosed with Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). To protect the expecting mother from further complications, the medics decided to induce labour which shattered her plans to marry her then-fiance, Louis Cerezo. In an interview, the bride and mum-to-be shared that she had plans to get married at the City Hall the next day.
Brianna and her fiance were brought upstairs to the labour floor where the nurses asked her regular questions like if they were married. That is when Brianna shared that she was supposed to get married the very next day, but instead ended up in the hospital and was going to be induced. The couple found unexpected support in the medics team. As soon as her nursing team found out about their wedding plans, they stepped in to help the couple get married. One of them mentioned that they knew a chaplain to get them married. Nervously, Brianna agreed to it.
While Brianna’s contractions kicked off, the hospital staff busied themselves in organising a wedding ceremony. One of the nurses fashioned a bridal white gown out of hospital sheets by following the preference of the bride and was readied in just 30 minutes. Luckily for the couple, Brianna had her marriage license and wedding rings right in her hospital bag.
Finally, the couple got married on a fixed date, they exchanged vows and rings, ate the wedding cake and a few hours after the ceremony, they welcomed a baby boy named Landon Irvin. In an interview, Brianna shared, “They made us feel like a part of the family.” The couple are planning to hold an official wedding and reception in the future, but looks like the list will be stretched out a bit as they plan to invite the healthcare workers to express their gratitude towards the team.
