The snake swallowed a beach towel, and the veterinarians in Australia had to perform an operation to help remove it.

An old video in which a python swallowed a beach towel after which the veterinarians had to perform an operation to remove it has once again surfaced on the Internet. The python, named Monty, and the viral video have once again sparked a debate about humans littering the habitats of these species.

The video, shared by an Instagram handle, re-narrated the incident that took place in Australia. The post mentioned that this “curious snake” accidentally ate the entire beach towel. When people around Minaty spotted her eating something weird, they were perplexed until they recognised the end of a beach towel poking out of its mouth and realised the python had swallowed the entire thing.

They sent the 18-year-old Jungle Carpet Python, reportedly weighing 5 kg and measuring 3 metres, to Sydney’s Small Animal Specialist Hospital. The post added, “After rushing her to sash_vets the team took X-rays to determine exactly where the towel started and ended inside Monty. Then they placed a flexible endoscope down Monty’s gastrointestinal tract, so they could see the towel as they tried to remove it.”

In the video, a doctor was seen holding Monty’s body while another quickly pulled the towel out. The snake’s body appears to decompress from the excess trash and return to its normal shape. The python was medicated, so he didn’t have to feel anything during the operation. She was discharged the same day.

While the video went viral in no time, netizens have varying reactions to the entire incident.

Many sympathised with the snake and her condition. “Feeling relaxed on behalf of the snake,” said one user after seeing her being operated on successfully. Another person felt bad and said it was a “Poor thing.”

Another person warned, “Do not litter to save animals.”

“Poor lil snake will need a drink of water after that,” read another remark.

“I’m surprised the family helped the snake,” stated one user.

“Is this snake version of the Vegan diet?” joked another person.
