Mumbai Police Recovers Judge's Lost Phone, Internet Says 'Do The Same When He's Retired'
The police and airport authorities were able to track the driver, who helped in bringing back the phone to the judge.

Most people who forget their phone in a taxi rarely get it back, unless the taxi driver is generous enough to return it. In many cases making a police complaint about a lost phone rarely leads to its recovery. However, an additional district judge from Uttar Pradesh was luckily able to get back his phone that was left in a taxi, thanks to prompt action by the Mumbai police. The incident occurred when the judge was visiting Mumbai. He had booked an ‘online taxi’ near Mumbai airport’s terminal 1. When he realised that he had left his phone in the taxi, he lodged a complaint about it on the Mumbai police’s website.

Soon, the Mumbai police and the airport authorities worked together and were able to track the taxi driver who had driven the judge. The taxi driver then returned the phone that was left in his taxi. The Mumbai police shared a photo of the additional district judge getting his phone back on X on Friday.

Commenting on it, an X user wrote, “Please be so prompt for common people as well! We would love to share these stories as well.” Another person wrote, “Great work! Am sure you would do the same when he “forgets” his phone next time as a retired SC judge from Delhi. The rest of us need to “remember” our phones carefully when we get off taxis.”

In August last year, the Mumbai police helped a woman get back her iPad that was left in an Ola cab. The woman contacted the Mumbai police after she was unable to reach the cab driver. The law enforcement agency was able to track and contact the Ola cab driver, who then returned the lost iPad. A person named Dushyant Hatti shared this incident on X on behalf of his friend who had lost her iPad.

In case anyone loses their phone or their phone is stolen, it is best to first file a complaint with the police. The victim can then go to the Department of Telecommunications’s Sanchar Saathi portal, to block their smartphones so that it is not misused. Law enforcement can still track one’s phone even when its international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) number is blocked. The Sanchar Saathi portal uses the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) to help users track and block their lost smartphones. However, people can only access this portal to block or track their phone using a police complaint number and a copy of the complaint.
