All of us have rubbed our eyes at some point, be it due to itching or irritation in the eye or when we have wept during an emotionally vulnerable moment. Rubbing our eyes is not generally considered an activity that can cause any malicious ailment but for a 21-year-old Malaysian youngster, something as benign as rubbing the eyes too frequently caused him to get cornea transplant surgery. If you are rattled by the news because you rub your eyes too, let us tell you that a man named Mohammad Zabidi did it excessively since he was a child.

Muhammad Zabidi has been dealing with allergies for as long as he can recall. During his childhood, he frequently rubbed his eyes until they were red, but it wasn’t until his teenage years that this became a significant issue. At the age of 15, he began to notice blurred vision in his right eye, and the condition progressively worsened.

Eventually, he consulted a doctor and learned that his persistent eye rubbing had severely damaged his cornea. To restore his vision, he would need a corneal transplant. Zabidi revealed all this in a video posted on his TikTok handle and shared that from his teenage years, his vision got all the more blurry with time until there was a big scar on his cornea by the time he reached 21.

Zabidi has now undergone a successful cornea transplant, where his damaged cornea was replaced by a new one. He was administered general anesthesia during the period so he did not feel any pain. However, Zabidi has mentioned in his TikTok video that according to the doctor, the healing process will be quite long. He mentioned that his condition is stable but his right eye is all plastered and he cannot open it. The doctor said that it would take him two months to open his eye and about two years to heal completely. This piece of news has gone viral in Malaysia, with users raising concerns about the act of rubbing our eyes too often.
