'He's Not Dead, Just Lazy': Owner's Facebook Post On His Pet Horse Goes Viral
The woman in her post explained that her pet horse Custard was neither ill nor was the animal on its deathbed. In fact, it was just a "sleep-loving foal aka a young horse."

A sleepy horse forced its owner to drop a Facebook post, explaining that the animal was not dead and just sleepy. The sleep schedule of horses is a little different than other animals. Scientific research has proven that there are four different rest stages in horses, which are inactivity, rest, nap, and sleep. Depending upon certain external factors and on the current situation the horse is in, these animals sleep accordingly. For horse owner Alex Tielles, a resident from Guernsey, UK, her horse Custard’s sleeping position led many passing the farm to believe that the animal was either sick or dead.

On a local Facebook group, the woman explained that her pet horse Custard was neither ill nor was the animal on its deathbed. In fact, it was just a sleepy foal. When Custard’s frequent naps and heavy snoring started concerning the people, Tielles was forced to share that foals or baby horses like Custard “sleep a lot and might even snore or grunt.” To support her statement, she dropped a picture of Custard soundly dozing off with his head lying on the ground. The post not only made the panic-stricken community heave a sigh of relief but it also served as a piece of information on a young horse’s sleeping habits.

Introducing Custard to social media users, the woman revealed that Custard lived with his friends in Ville Baudu. “I have had a number of calls and messages from people concerned that he is ill or dead at times. He is not. He’s just a baby and is incredibly lazy,” she said. The horse owner added that sometimes the sleepy foal looks like it is unable to breathe, although this was not the case. Continuing, she said that Custard was quite healthy and she checks upon the animal “at least three times a day.” Also, the adorable foal has unlimited access to hay and “is fed at least twice a day.”

Passersby who came across the nap-loving horse was quick to contact the animal control authorities thinking that Custard was unwell or something bad happened to it. Some strangers even resorted to feeding the horse. However, reassuring them that Custard was in good health and was just sleeping out of laziness, the woman requested the people not to feed the animal. As per her, young horses behave aggressively when they consume excess food. They can even suffer from a stomach ache and get seriously ill.
