'GOAT On Streets': Life-Size Statue Of Virat Kohli Unveiled At New York's Times Square

Virat Kohli is one of the biggest names in cricket. With the International Cricket Council (ICC) trying to popularise the sport in America, a life-size statue of the star batter has been unveiled at the iconic Times Square in New York. The USA is the co-host of the T20 World Cup which is currently underway in the Caribbean islands. The Indian team featuring Kohli played their first three league matches of the tournament in New York. Fans attended those games at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium to watch Kohli live in action. Now, New York City has a statue of the legendary batter, who has been ruling world cricket for over 15 years.

Duroflex, an Indian mattress brand, took the initiative of this giant statue of Virat Kohli. The Indian cricketer is also the brand ambassador of Duroflex. The company shared some glimpses of the statue by posting a video on X (formerly Twitter). The sculpture shows Virat Kohli celebrating a century by lifting his bat.

“Just Unveiled: A larger-than-life statue of Virat Kohli at the iconic Times Square. This King’s Duty, we are going global and making history! We’re delivering great sleep and great health to Virat Kohli,” the tweet read.

The video caught the attention of fans who expressed their admiration for Virat Kohli in the replies. A proud fan simply wrote, “GOAT on the streets of the world.”

Highlighting Virat Kohli’s iconic jersey no. 18, a fan commented, “King For A Reason.”

“As a cricket lover, especially Indian, I am extremely proud of Kohli,” admitted a person.

Coming off a brilliant Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign, Virat Kohli has failed to match the expectations so far in the T20 World Cup. He is playing as an opener at the ICC event alongside captain Rohit Sharma. In his seven appearances in the global showpiece, Kohli has managed only 66 runs including two ducks against the USA and Australia.

Despite his poor form, India have already sealed their berth in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue have been unbeaten in the competition. They confirmed their place in the knockouts by defeating Australia by 24 runs in the last Super Eight match in St Lucia. India will meet England in the second semi-final on June 27 in Guyana.
