Ex-Google Engineer's Post On NRIs Praising India Has The Internet Talking
Over the years, many NRIs have pointed out faults in the Indian system, backing their arguments with statements like 'better facilities' and 'human value'.

There has been a long debate over why non-resident Indians (NRIs) prefer to live away from their homeland and spend their lives in a different country. Over the years, many NRIs have pointed out faults in the Indian system, backing their arguments with statements like ‘better facilities’ and ‘human value’. With the development of social media, these arguments by NRIs have been severely bashed by Indians online. Recently, another user on the internet posed a debatable question to many NRIs. In his post, he has specifically called out NRIs who praise India and asked them to explain why they are not living in their home country. His post has gone viral, leading to a lot of heated debate among the users.

Debarghya Das, who is an Indian-origin tech influencer and a former Google engineer, took to the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) and questioned NRIs who praise India. He took a dig at them and questioned why they don’t choose to stay in their homeland despite praising India. He wrote, “When Indians living abroad talk about how bustling the scene is in India, they should feel obligated to answer why they are not living there.” He continued his point in another post and clarified that he is fine with people believing that India is not a place where they would want to live because of various reasons. However, he emphasised that it is extremely important that people explain their reasons properly. He wrote, “It’s disingenuous to try to act like it’s the best place in the world to be if you’re not in it.”

After he posted this question on X, it sparked a big debate among the NRIs and residents of India. Many of them continued their discussion in the comments section and expressed their views. A user wrote, “The only reason Indians living abroad miss India is the cheap labour.” When you ask what they like about India, it’s mainly how they get daily household chores and stuff done through cheap labour.” Another commented, “Meh, why? There are plenty of valid, legit reasons why you can’t be living back home but still find it exciting; while there’s also no reason you can’t be enthusiastic about its growth while already being in a place that is giving you more.”

So far, the post has gotten 2.2 million views on X.
