Pop culture has given rise to culinary monstrosities that are carefully executed for viral popularity. The genre is unified by several defining traits, albeit the definition of weirdness may vary depending on the viewer or content creator. An increasing trend among modern chefs is to create dishes that their patrons would probably find ‘shocking’. Recently, a new trend emerged online and involved fried dandelion flowers.
A video was shared on Instagram showing a woman making dandelions “taste just like fried chicken.” A woman is seen picking dandelions and gathering them in a bowl in the Instagram reel. After giving the flowers a good wash, she lets them air dry.
Meanwhile, she whisks together the eggs and milk in a dish. She mixes flour with a variety of spices in a different bowl, such as fajita seasoning, lemon pepper and black pepper. She then melts homemade butter in a pan. After dipping the dried flowers in the egg mixture and coating them in the flour mixture, she places them into the pan. After that, she offers us a peek at the fried flowers, which appear crunchy. She describes them as “amazing” after tasting them. Finally, she enjoys them alongside ribs.

The clip has received a lot of attention online, propelling it to viral status with 118,000 views. This method of frying dandelions caused disagreement among Instagram users. While some said they would try it, others weren’t impressed.
A user wrote, “Yum. These look delicious and so good for you. Thank you for sharing.”
Another took the satirical approach saying, “How I got my dandelions to taste like chicken.. I fed them to the chickens first, and then ate the chicken.”
A user commented, “I love fried dandelions. Super pumped to make some soon.”
Meanwhile, another declared, “There’s 100% absolutely no way that this tastes anything like chicken.”
It’s claimed that dandelion flowers are an excellent source of protein, calcium, iron, and vitamins A and C. In addition, they support healthy skin, improve digestion and strengthen your immune system.
