Based on her bestselling biography, the series stars Game of Thrones actress Charlotte Hope who will be essaying the role of Dr Micki Pistorius.

Within days of completing her studies, psychology student Dr Micki Pistorius found herself in Cape Town to survey a crime scene left by one of the country’s most prolific serial killers. Dr Micki, South Africa’s first serial killer profiler, was assigned a task in 1994 to develop a criminal profile that was desperately required to catch the criminal responsible for raping and strangling 21 boys. Since then, she never looked back and has achieved the remarkable feat of catching 35 serial killers.

A new drama series Catch Me A Killer was released on the platform named Alibi on Tuesday navigating through Micki’s life and work as South Africa’s first serial killer. Based on her bestselling biography, the series stars Game of Thrones actress Charlotte Hope who will be essaying the role of Micki.

Explaining the title of the upcoming series, Micki was quoted by The Mirror as saying, “I started giving courses on criminal profiling to detectives. At the end of one course. I said, ‘What are you waiting for? Go catch me, a killer.” The drama will showcase her journey starting from her first job after she joined the South African Police Service 30 years ago.

Micki’s work soon caught the attention of the renowned FBI agent and criminal profiler Robert Ressler. Robert is also known as the Mindhunter. He also has a show streaming on him with the same name. He landed in South Africa during the hunt for serial killer Moses Sithole in August 1995, who was accused of raping and murdering at least 37 women.

Speaking about what all serial killers have in common, Micki says, “I see serial killers as normal people doing horrible things, capable of the most heinous acts – they are not mentally ill. When I met them, I saw how ordinary they were. They are not monsters. They kill due to an inferiority complex, which they compensate for by taking a life and feeling like God.”

As Micki reflects on her journey from a fresh psychology graduate to a renowned serial killer profiler, it highlights the complexities and challenges of dealing with the darkest aspects of humanity.
