We often come across incidents of flights being delayed due to unruly passengers and incidents of mid-air conflicts. However, this one might be less heard of. A Chinese woman had to be escorted off a flight as she refused to keep her Louis Vuitton bag under the Economy class seat during take-off, claiming it was “too expensive”. The woman’s persistent refusal caused the flight to have an hour-long delay much to the inconvenience of fellow passengers. As a result, she was escorted off the flight with other passengers applauding. As per the South China Morning Post, the incident was reported at the Chongqing municipality of China on August 10.
The video was shared on the Chinese social media app Douyin. It garnered up to 4 million views. A passenger, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared that the shocking incident took place in the Economy class of a China Express Airlines flight. The woman was instructed to keep her bag under the seat during take-off but insisted on keeping it next to her. Reportedly, the flight was already departing but had to return at the boarding gate to deboard the woman.
While China Express Airlines has refused to make comments or reveal the passenger’s identity, the video has received mixed reactions from users on social media. While many agree with the deboarding action against the woman, some say it was not necessary and steps could have been taken by the flight attendants to resolve the matter, preventing the hour-long delay.
“The flight attendant did not insist on the rule for nothing. The woman should value her safety and that of other passengers rather than the bag,” a user said on Douyin.
“The flight attendant could have offered her a bag to put her handbag in. Is it really necessary to waste an hour and kick her off the plane?” another asked.
