Agra Woman Files For Divorce As Husband Skips Daily Baths: Report

A woman from Agra, Uttar Pradesh has filed a divorce after only 40 days of marriage because of her husband’s cleanliness habits. This anonymous woman complained that her husband, Rajesh, bathes once or twice a month at most. Due to his infrequency in bathing, he reportedly developed an unbearable stench which she could no longer withstand. As per the India Today report, Rajesh states that he uses Gangajal — water from the River Ganga — for purification, sprinkling it over his body once a week. However, throughout the time they were married, which in this case was a short time, he took a bath six times in total that too by his wife’s coaxing.

The incident reportedly marked the beginning of the breakdown of their relationship. After several confrontations where the woman insisted on observing hygiene, she left and went back to her parents’ home. Due to the situation, her family registered a dowry harassment complaint against Rajesh at a nearby police station, the report added.

In the family counselling centre in Agra, where the woman went seeking help from officials, her complaints were accorded due consideration. Rajesh responded positively to the police and counsellor’s intervention by promising to change habits and bathe daily. Nevertheless, the woman does not feel ready to go over the relationship once again as she still wishes to separate. The couple, as per the publication, has been advised to return to the counselling centre on September 22 to continue the conversation about their future.

This is not the first case of this kind. Agra has witnessed other bizarre divorce cases in the past few months. Earlier this year, another woman sought a divorce from her husband because he failed to bring her a packet of Kurkure and this resulted in frequent quarrels between the two.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the woman had a tendency to consume Kurkure regularly. Her addiction to consuming junk food frequently caused arguments at home. The report claimed that one day he failed to pack the food for home. She apparently became so enraged by this that she moved out of the house and back to her parents’. A few days later, she went on to file for divorce.
