In today’s bustling world of electronic gadgets, especially our mobile phones being omnipresent, the mere thought of staying without one even for some time, evokes a sense of panic and restlessness in most of us. However, there is one TV star who does not care about it much and prefers to stay away from his smartphone and opts for a digital detox very often. We are talking about the renowned actor Aasif Sheikh, who has gained immense popularity for portraying the character of Vibhuti Narayan Mishra in the well-loved television series Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain.
As per the latest storyline of the show, the narrative deals with a scenario where most characters have become heavily reliant on their phones and are encountering a sense of helplessness when separated from their devices.
The actor, while in conversation with Pinkvilla, talked about this plotline of the show and its relevance in real life. Sheikh shed light on his unique approach to this digital dilemma, explaining his deliberate choice of a brief digital detox during his time on the sets of Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain. “I always keep my phone in my makeup room and refrain from taking it onto the sets to avoid inviting distractions, as it is a part of my mini digital detox,” shared the actor.
The actor also said that the incessant phone notifications interfere with his concentration during rehearsals, making productivity a challenging task in such circumstances. “I follow a practice where people who know me well understand that my lack of response to their calls means I am engrossed in work,” he added.
While acknowledging the omnipresence of social media, Aasif Sheikh emphasised the importance of setting boundaries. He discloses that his interaction with social platforms is limited to a few brief moments each day, primarily aimed at connecting with his fans. Reflecting on the evolution of cell phones, the actor expressed his observations on a bygone era where people were more focused and alert. The widespread use of smartphones, according to him, has resulted in a significant decline in people’s ability to concentrate.
During the conversation, Sheikh also encouraged his fans and viewers to detach themselves from their phones periodically. “Technology should be used to enhance your life, not become your life,” he said.
Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, the popular comedy sitcom, is telecasted on TV every Monday to Friday from 10:30 pm to 11 pm. It is also available on OTT platform Zee5 and features Shubhangi Atre, Rohitash Gaud and Saumya Tandon alongside Aasif Sheikh.
