In a special Navratri episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 15, the spotlight was on Bollywood actress Shefali Shah and social worker Hare Ram Pandey. The episode was dedicated to acknowledging Hare Ram’s remarkable efforts in caring for 35 girls who had been abandoned by their families. Shefali, who has been actively supporting his cause, was deeply touched by his story. She shared a personal anecdote from her past with host Amitabh Bachchan, revealing her wish for a daughter. She recounted an amusing moment when, after giving birth to her second son, the doctor praised his looks. In response, the Dil Dhadakne Do actress playfully requested the doctor to double-check the baby’s gender.
The actress shared, “Jab kisi ke ghar bacha paida hota hai, toh woh bohot khushi ki baat hoti hai aur mere liye khaas kar ke beti. Mujhe dono bete hain, toh pehli baar toh thik hai, I mean pehla bacha tha i was very excited, lekin dusri baar, jab beta paida hua toh doctor ne kaha, ‘kitna khubsoorat beta hai,’ toh maine kaha, ‘dobara check karlo shayad beti ho,’ unhone kaha nahi. (When a child is born in someone’s home, it’s a moment of great joy, especially a daughter for me. I have two sons, so the first time, it was fine. I mean, with the first child, I was very excited. But the second time, when a son was born, the doctor said, ‘What a beautiful son.’ So, I asked them to check again, maybe it’s a daughter. They said no).”
“Itne saarey log hain jinko beti chahiye hoti hai, aur unfortunately aaj ki tarikh mein bhi aise bhi log hain, jo bachon ko abandon kar dete hain, aur khaas karke betiyon ko. Mandir ke paas, kisi ashram ke bahar ya kisi kude daan mein aur in saari betiyon ko Pandey ji ne adopt kiya hai, aj ki tarikh mein unki 35 betyian hain. (There are so many people who desire to have daughters and unfortunately, even today, there are those who abandon their children, especially daughters. Near a temple, outside an ashram or in a garbage dump, Pandey ji has adopted all these daughters. As of today, he has 35 daughters),” she added.
For the episode, Hare Ram Pandey was joined by his son and daughter-in-law. Shefali Shah then disclosed that out of 35, nine adopted girls were present on Kaun Banega Crorepati’s set, leaving audiences emotional and cheering for them. Interestingly, the first girl Hare Ram rescued, named Tapsi, was also present.
Amitabh Bachchan further inquired how Hare Ram manages the financial responsibility of so many family members. The social worker then explained that for a simple life with basic necessities, he spends around one lakh rupees. He shared that at one point, he owed the milkman a massive amount and the milkman even threatened to stop delivering milk. To settle the debt, he sold the mixer he had bought for his wife for Rs 2,400, which was worth Rs 2,800 and paid the milkman. He also mentioned that he keeps reaching out to people for help and sharing stories of their struggles, including times when they had to go without food and water.
