Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, one of India’s longest running daily soaps, has held a special place in the hearts of viewers since its telecast in 2000. While Smriti Irani’s character Tulsi was a fan favorite, Amar Upadhyay’s Mihir Virani also won over many fans. However, like many Indian daily soaps, Ekta Kapoor introduced a shocking twist by killing off Mihir’s character, leaving fans saddened and some even furious seeing him exiting the show then. In a recent interview, Amar spoke about the craze that reached next level after his on screen character’s death. He recalled incident of fans voicing their anger by throwing stones at Balaji office.

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Amar claimed that around 25 women gathered outside Balaji office, where the show was produced and angrily they threw stones, questioning why Mihir’s character was killed and who had decided to write such a storyline. Amar and the team involved in the show’s production were like, ‘Yes, it worked.’ He explained that he couldn’t fully understand the fans’ reactions, as he was just focused on his career, hoping that his good work would lead to more opportunities in the future.

Further, Amar Upadhyay also remembered the time when people mobbed him for pictures and autographs. The actor shared, “2000 ke end mein, main gaya tha Taj Mahal dekhne Agra aur mujhe nahi pata tha Friday ko free entry hoti hai. Toh main toh shamko pohcha, toh dekha, itni bheed, itni bheed, main gate ke bahar road pe lakhon log khade andar jane ke liye. Andar, kisi ne dekh liya mujhe, ‘Ye toh woh Kyunki wala ladka hai, Mihir.’ Woh baat phail gaya, udar sabne gher liya, meri family waha chali gayi, main kahan chala gaya, mujhe kahan le gaye crowd. (At the end of 2000, I had gone to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra and I didn’t know that entry was free on Fridays. So, I arrived in the evening and saw a massive crowd outside the main gate, with thousands of people standing on the road to enter. Inside, someone spotted me and quickly, the crowd surrounded me. My family went one way and I was taken away by the crowd).”

“Fir security agayi, 20-25 log akey mujhe andar le gaye, bole ‘Sir, aap kyun aaye idhar aaye,’ maine bola, ‘Kyun aya? Main Taj Mahal dekhne aya, mujhe kya pata itna aisa ho jayega.’ Meri family 1 km dur hai, main kahin aur hun, kapde fatt gaye mere toh, kapde liye fir maine bahar jake, Taj mahal dekha hi nahi. (Security arrived and about 20-25 people took me inside, asking, ‘Sir, why did you come here?’ I replied, ‘Why did I come? I came to see the Taj Mahal. I had no idea this would happen.’ My family was 1KM away and I was in a different place. My clothes were torn, so I had to buy new ones and I didn’t even get to see the Taj Mahal),” he added.

At present, Amar Upadhyay is actively engaged in promoting his upcoming Colors daily soap, Doree.
