WhatsApp Linked devices is a useful tool which allows you to open the same account across multiple devices without having to ditch your primary phone. The main app on mobile supports locked chats feature which keeps the important messages hidden behind a separate locked folder.
But if you are using WhatsApp on the web, the client reveals all your chats including the locked content which is obviously negating the use of the feature in the first place. However, we are expecting things to change in this regard, as WhatsApp has started testing the Locked chats feature to sync with all the Linked devices for your WhatsApp account.
What this means is that all your chats behind the Locked folder will be secure on iPad, on the web and any other secondary Linked device that you have and use WhatsApp on daily. The details of this feature come via WABetaInfo this week, which is still under development, and not available to the beta testers. The upcoming feature shows us how the secure chat lock and access code options are available for Linked devices as well. The tipster has spotted the tool in the Android beta version 2.24.8.4 update.
It is likely that WhatsApp will require you to set the code/biometric from the primary device, and use the second layer of protection to keep your chats and other content, including the name of the sender secure behind the folder at the top of the main WhatsApp interface.
WhatsApp locked chats have only been compatible with your phones, so if you used the WhatsApp web version on a browser, the locked chats were automatically visible to everyone. Bringing this feature to the messaging app will solve that problem altogether and give people more reasons to link their devices to WhatsApp accounts and not worry about the data being exposed.
