Netflix will also offer two other plans priced at Rs 650 and Rs 800.

Netflix launched operations in India on Wednesday, with plans starting at Rs 500 per month, as the US-based video streaming company pushes ahead with its global expansion plans.

The move confirmed months of speculation on the launch of the service in the second-most populous country in the world.

The company will also offer two other plans priced at Rs 650 and Rs 800, it announced on its website. Netflix is offering the first month of access free for users in India.

Netflix is aggressively moving into new markets and its co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings announced during his keynote address at CES 2016 in Las Vegas, that as of today the service is live in nearly every country in the world. The company added 130 new countries to its Internet TV network.

Hastings said that the company will be adding new languages to its service.

As slowing domestic growth put pressure on the company, Netflix has previously said that it aims to reach 200 countries by the end of 2016

Users can access Netflix through an app on a smart TV, a videogame console, a streaming player, a smartphone or a tablet.
