Apple Vision Pro headset is yet to launch in India but the country’s government has issued a major security warning for people who have bought the premium headset. The visionOS platform powers the headset and the security alert with high severity rating from the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) suggests users of the headset need to be alert about the concerns and act on them right away.
VisionOS CERT-In Security Alert: What It Says
These vulnerabilities exist in Apple products due to use after free issues in kernel, error in the CoreMedia and libiconv component, out-of-bounds write issue and more issues, the CERT-In note explains.
The terms used in the bulletin are technical but what it tries to say is that any remote attacker could have the power to bypass the security of the device if they manage to find and breach the security issues.
Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Apple visionOS which could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges, trigger termination of app unexpectedly, bypass kernel memory protections, fingerprint the user, bypass security restrictions, cause denial of service (DoS) conditions and access sensitive information from the targeted system, the note further adds.
Apple has already offered a fix for these security risks, and the Vision Pro headset owners can look for the update on their device right away to fix the loophole that can put them in a dangerous spot.
Apple Vision Pro Future In Doubt?
Apple Vision Pro headset sales started a while back and the reviews have told us everything around its hype. But the company faces the awkward decision of cutting down its shipments for 2024 as the demand for the headset seems to have gone down much earlier than it expected.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple has revised its shipment target from 800,000 units of the Vision Pro headset by almost half to 400,000 units.
The first-gen Apple headset costs $3,499 which makes it a hard-sell for the consumers and that has pushed the company to rejig its future roadmap for the segment. It also announced that the headset will be available in nine new countries like China, Australia, Germany and more later this month.
