Google Is Letting You Purchase Apps Via Face Unlock And More: Don’t Need Passwords Now?
Google is giving people the option to secure their app purchases from the Play Store without using passwords from now. Here's how it works.

Google is making it easier and safer to download apps and even buy them on the Play Store. The company is informing its users that biometric security is available for people who use phones with these features. What this means is that you don’t have to worry about remembering the passwords all the time or even have to share them with others, in case that is ever needed.

“If you set biometrics, it means that you’ll be asked to verify that it’s you with biometrics each time that you make a purchase through Google Play,” Google explains in the mail sent to its customers this month. Biometric verification does come in handy, and Apple users have enjoyed its reliability with Face ID on iPhones for many years now. Android phones offer both face and finger ID recognition but the latter is definitely more secure on the platform, as advocated by many brands.

Google lets you make payments using Face Unlock on the Pixel 8 Pro model, but very few phones have the capability to convince people to use the tech for these sensitive matters. “To keep your account secure, turn on purchase verification for every purchase. Avoid sharing passwords with others,” the mail adds. So how does one set up the feature on their Android phone and make passwords less important in the whole scheme of things?

How To Set up Biometric Verification On Android Phones

– Open Play Store on your Android phone

– Go to Settings of the Play Store

– Tap on Purchase Verification

– Enable the toggle bar to use biometric security to verify app purchases for your Google account.

– You can enable the feature for always, every 30 minutes or never

Google is one of the many tech giants out there who see a passwordless future slowly but surely coming to fruition. Windows PCs now let you access the account using features like Windows Hello which is Microsoft’s version of Face ID for laptops using the built-in webcam that has advanced sensors to track and identify the person in front of the machine trying to unlock the system.

What's your reaction?
