Google Brings AI-Powered 'Summary Cards' In Gmail: What it Offers
Gmail already has AI features that users got recently but having summary cards could be its most useful AI addition.

Google has introduced a new feature in Gmail, designed to simplify the email reading experience. The recent update, available for both iOS and Android users, includes summary cards that make navigating emails quicker and more efficient. Most people lose track of important dates, bills and bookings scattered across apps, and the new AI feature looks to fix those issues.

The revamped summary cards enable users to engage with content and perform actions without having to open each email individually. With a more modern design, the cards feature new action buttons allowing users to add events to the calendar, invite others or set bill payment reminders directly from the card.

This time-saving feature streamlines email interaction, aiming to reduce the overwhelm caused by cluttered inboxes and scattered details.

“Summary cards are also becoming more powerful on the backend, organising key information from across all related emails and updating in real-time, so you’ll always know when to expect deliveries,” Google mentioned in its blog post.

Google’s revamped Gmail summary cards will enhance email management across four key categories:

Purchases: Track packages, view order details and get updates on deliveries, making it easier to know when items like gifts will arrive.

Events: Forgetting reservations or tickets will be a thing of the past. Add events to your calendar, invite others and find directions—all from the summary card.

Bills: View upcoming bills, set payment reminders and even add due dates to Google Tasks to stay on top of your finances.

Travel: Manage reservations, check-in for flights and view important travel details like hotel check-out times, ensuring a smooth travel experience from booking to boarding.

Moreover, the tech giant introduced a new “Happening soon” section at the top of the inbox that will highlight upcoming events and provide the most timely updates without even needing to open individual emails. To start, purchase summary cards will appear and this section will help users stay on top of important deadlines. This option will only show up when it’s relevant.

“For example, once the estimated delivery date of a purchase is two days away, “Happening soon” will show the purchase summary card, allowing you to see when your package is arriving at a glance. If you have multiple deliveries arriving in the same timeframe, the summary cards are stacked, and you can expand, dismiss, or click to go directly to the related email,” Google explained.

The AI-powered updated purchase summary cards are initially rolling out for individual emails on Android and iOS. However, the event, bill, and travel summary cards and ‘Happening soon’ section will be available in the coming months.
