If you are a gamer who owns a PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4 console, it is important to note that some users are being randomly and permanently banned from accessing the PlayStation Network due to alleged violations of the PlayStation Network User Agreement.
As spotted by The Verge, a user known as @MichaelDhaliwal said on X (formerly Twitter) that their PlayStation Network account had been permanently banned. “No one knows why! I don’t have a chargeback, I can’t appeal & no response to suspension status. CS says to create a new account & disconnected me,” he said.
My account just worked!!!— Michael Dhaliwal (@michaeldhaliwal) December 5, 2023
In the screenshot shared by the user, we can see that Sony has listed that the ban is “due to violations of the PlayStation Network Terms of Service and User Agreement.” However, the user has reported that their account is now functioning normally after a few hours.
“Same here while I was playing Lemnant 2 and kicked out. Although I chatted at Sony page, as soon as they confirmed that my account was permanently banned because of violation of terms they left the chat immediately without letting me typing a word. I have never played with chatting and multiplayer features. WTF!!” a Reddit user (u/Real_Emergency_8845) said.
Since then, multiple other users have reported experiencing the same issue. However, it is worth noting that Sony has not yet acknowledged the issue, and there is currently no word on how widespread the problem is, or if it is only affecting accounts in a particular region.
To check if you are affected by the same issue, you can try and access the PSN Store on your console or mobile app; if you receive the same error message, this indicates that your account has been banned.
