New Delhi: IBM has launched its business-centric apps to the Apple Watch which target the healthcare sector, field-service technicians, and public safety officials.
The first batch of IBM enterprise apps for the smartwatch include a Hospital RN app that nurses can use on the Apple smartwatch to receive push notifications about a patient’s healthcare needs.
The Field Connect app provides information about weather, power outages or any sort of hazard that may impact a field technician’s job straight to a user’s watch.
For public safety officials, the Incident Aware app will stream urgent alerts to one’s Apple Watch.
A report on Fortune notes that the common element of all these apps is the emphasis on push notifications because the small screen of the Apple Watch limits the inclusion of excessive features.
These apps act more like an extension of the existing apps found on a user’s iPhone or iPad to create a multi-device app experience.
Even as companies are pushing out apps for the much-hyped product by Apple in five years, it is worth noting that the smart wearable comes for a price tag of $349 and goes up to a premium of $17,000 and adoption of these devices on a large-scale is an idea in its infancy and may take years before coming to fruition.
