Apple AirPods Max 2 With USB-C Port May Launch Next Year: What To Expect
Apple is planning to update the AirPods Max with a USB-C port, replacing the current Lightning port.

The US-based tech giant Apple released its first headphones, AirPods Max, in 2020. While the company has not yet released a successor, a new report suggests that Apple is reportedly planning to release a new generation model in 2024.

According to a report from MacRumors, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple will introduce a new version of the AirPods Max 2 in late 2024.

The report revealed that Apple is planning to update the AirPods Max with a USB-C port, replacing the current Lightning port. This move is in line with European regulations and will bring the AirPods Max in line with other Apple AirPods products.

As per Gurman, the upcoming AirPods Max 2 will include a USB-C to USB-C charging cable instead of a Lightning to USB-C cable. The company will also provide a USB-C to 3.5mm audio accessory cable for users to connect AirPods Max 2 to 3.5mm audio ports.

Apple is set to introduce new colour options for the second-generation AirPods Max, as per Bloomberg report. However, the specific colours remain unknown at this time.

Bluetooth 5.3, which is expected to be featured in the upcoming AirPods Max 2, brings enhancements that can enhance wireless connection reliability and energy efficiency. While the Bluetooth specification includes LE Audio, it seems Apple has not yet implemented support for LE Audio in its devices.

Current rumors suggest that aside from the new colors, no significant changes are anticipated for the AirPods Max 2. However, it’s worth noting that Apple’s plans may evolve before the expected release in late 2024.

Apple’s U2 Ultra Wideband chip can be found in the latest iPhone 15 series, Apple Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2, and allows for Precision Finding in the Find My app. The current ‌AirPods Max‌ feature basic support for ‌Find My‌, but do not even feature the previous generation U1 chip.

According to MacRumors, for Apple to add a U2 chip to AirPods Max 2 would therefore enable a much more precise way to locate the headphones when they are nearby.
