After many years of the original Ullam Uruguthaiya Muruga’s release, TM Soundararajan discovered this song while staying at a lodge in Tamil Nadu. During his stay in DMS Lodge at Palani, he heard a boy singing this song for Lord Murugan. The boy was working there and humming the song. TM Soundararajan was highly impressed by the lyrics and its music. He inquired about the original singer and the lyricist of the song. The boy didn’t respond to anything. Then, TM Soundarajan made the boy sing the whole song and wrote it down line by line. He later recorded it and became an instant hit.

After some time, the singer went to Kalikamba temple in Chennai and found the song Ullam Urugunthada Muruga engraved on a stone slab of the temple. Underneath, the name of the singer was written. It was Andavan Pichai. The slab was engraved in 1952. The singer originally sang 18 verses of it. The Andavan Pichai Bhajan Mandali, led by Smt Kamakshi Kuppuswamy, sings this song in many temples and sabhas in the original tune in Raga Attana.
