In 2022, when SS Rajamouli’s movie RRR with Ram Charan and Jr NTR came out, it got a lot of attention worldwide and even clinched an Oscar for the Best Original Song. The makers said both Ram Charan’s character, Alluri Sitaramaraju and NTR’s character, Komaram Bheem, were equally important to the story. Now, two years later, in an interview with Mahaa Max, SS Rajamouli’s dad, writer Vijayendra Prasad, seems to be saying something different.
Vijayendra meant to praise Jr NTR’s role as Bheem by calling it ‘supporting,’ but fans didn’t seem to interpret it that way. Explaining himself, he said, “When I wrote the story, I thought people would see Alluri Sitaramaraju in Charan, not Ram. But people up north claimed it felt more like Ram. Now NTR’s Bheem did not have a get-up like that, so people seem to have lessened his importance to the story overall.”
Stating that while he thought Ram Charan’s role will make a splash, he believes that it was Jr NTR’s role that was more difficult to play. He said that he thought they’re both important to the story when he wrote the film. He said, “I thought they’re both important to the story when I wrote the film. But after I watched it, I felt like people will remember Charan’s character more. That said, it’s difficult to play NTR’s role, he did it well. Charan’s character has so many shades to it, NTR has to be efficient in playing the supporting role throughout.”
Jr NTR’s fans weren’t happy thinking their favourite actor didn’t have the lead role in RRR. On the other hand, fans of Ram Charan were excited that their star got more importance in the film. Ram Charan’s fans even started a trend on X, sharing videos of SS Rajamouli and Vijayendra praising Ram with the hashtag ‘unrivalled Ram Charan supremacy.’
