How Late Actor Vijayakanth Helped Thalapathy Vijay In His Film Career

Actor-comedian Sathish Muthukrishnan is one of the most popular faces in the Tamil film industry. He made his breakthrough by portraying a role alongside Sivakarthikeyan in the 2013 film Ethir Neechal. Since then, he has never looked back. He won the Edison Award for Best Comedian for his performance in Kaththi in 2014, followed by Thangamagan in 2015 and Remo in 2016, and the Edison Award for Best Appearance for the film Tamizh Padam 2 in 2018. Recently, Sathish attended a media interaction where he shared a story told to him by actor Thalapathy Vijay. He spoke about the opportunity that actor Vijayakanth had given to him.

In the interview, Sathish said Vijay had once told him about the things that happened during the shooting of his film Senthoorapandi, which was released in 1993. During that time, Vijayakanth was one of the biggest and most successful heroes. Thalapathy Vijay was an aspiring actor at that time. During the shoot, people would come in large numbers to meet or see Vijayakanth. At that time, Vijayakanth would call Thalapathy Vijay and introduce him to the common people.

Sathish said that Vijay told him that actor Vijayakanth would call him and ask him to shake hands with people who came to meet him.

According to earlier reports, Vijayakanth had extended his help to Thalapathy Vijay when he first entered the film industry. Back in the 90s, when Thalapathy Vijay’s father, director SA Chandrasekhar, approached Vijayakant to appear in this film alongside his son, the actor instantly said yes; reportedly, didn’t even charge a single penny for his work. Vijayakanth agreed to play the role for free.

Vijay and Vijayakanth worked together for the first time in the 1993 film Senthoorapandi. It was directed by SA Chandrasekhar, the film was the second release of Vijay, and it went on to become a huge hit.

In the film, Vijay plays the role of Vijaykanth’s younger brother. Along with him in the lead and Vijayakanth doing the cameo, the film also had Yuvarani and Gouthami in the lead roles.

The movie revolved around Vijay (Thalapathy Vijay), who falls in love with Meena (Yuvarani). But Meena’s brother opposes their marriage due to rivalries between both families. Vijay’s brother Senthoorapandi returns from jail to help him win his love.
