Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters of last year. The film went on to earn more than Rs 1,100 crore at the worldwide box office and received a great response from the audience. The film was a multilingual project that was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the film also starred Nayanthara and Deepika Padukone in important roles. Jawan was directed by Atlee, who has turned out to be one of the most successful directors in India.
Now, it has been reported that Atlee is all set to become the highest-paid director in the Tamil film industry, surpassing his mentor and veteran filmmaker S Shankar. The latest reports suggest that he is going to be the highest-paid Tamil filmmaker. It has been reported that Atlee has joined hands with Sun Pictures for his next directorial.
Earlier, it was reported that Thalapathy Vijay was all set to star in the untitled project. Now, it has been found that Telugu superstar Allu Arjun will be collaborating with the director to take the lead role in the film. As per reports, Atlee will be charging a whopping Rs 60 crore for the film, making him the highest-paid filmmaker in Tamil cinema. The script work for the project has already started and the final talks are progressing.
Before him, it was Tamil director Shankar who received the highest remuneration for making a film. Atlee started as an assistant director under Shankar in the films Enthiran and Nanban. He considers Shankar his mentor. After that, he made his directorial debut with the film Raja Rani. Later, he directed the films Theri, Mersal and Bigil, all featuring Vijay. All these films became commercially successful at the box office and won several accolades as well.
Atlee is also working as a producer for the Hindi remake of Theri, which is titled Baby John and stars Varun Dhawan in the lead role.
