Phagwara: Condemning the alleged desecration incidents in Punjab, VHP working president Pravin Togadia on Wednesday demanded an immediate arrest of the culprits and urged the administration to try them in fast track courts.
"The desecration of Guru Granth Sahib was an insult of the Sikhs as well as followers of Sanatan and Hindu religion who too have high respect for the 'Gurus' and 'Gurbani'", Togadia said.
"Guru Granth Sahib belongs not just to Sikhs, it is for others as well," he said.
Togadia noted that sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and insult of religious sentiments of Sikhs and their holy book won't be tolerated. On being asked whether the recurrence of desecration incidents was the failure of Parkash Singh Badal government or a foreign hand was behind the incidents for vitiating state's hard-earned peace, the leader quipped that whosoever were the desecrators, be they local, national or international elements, must be brought to book and tried in fast track courts.
On growing incidents of intolerance in country, Togadia argued that if everyone abides by rule of law, there won't be any threat to peace and tolerance.
Disclosing that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had launched a project of 'Swastha Bharta, Samridh Kisan' (healthy India, prosperous farmer) in various parts of country, the leader who himself is a doctor, said that 40-45 crore Indians were suffering from serious diseases concerning heart, kidney, blood pressure, cancer while 80 per cent of them are not aware of their conditions.
He claimed that he had set up India Helpline and private medical specialists would provide free medical services to these needy patients.
"I have come here today to hold meetings with doctors and this service is likely to start in Punjab soon, may be from Jalandhar, day after tomorrow", he said.
For checking farmers' suicide, Togadia suggested the community to undertake organic farming. He claimed that organic farming can save expenditure on fertilizers and fetch more price for the product.
He advocated use of cow-dung as fertilizer. On the issue of ban on cow slaughter, Togadia said that all citizens should abide by the law for cow protection.
Stopping cow-slaughter is a pre-requisite for the country to become 'roga mukta' (disease-free), he added.
