Lucknow: A Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate for the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh allegedly demanded money from a police officer so that the candidate could recover the money he claimed to have spent to "buy" the party ticket, an official record shows.
Hussain Ansari, candidate of the state's ruling BSP, called up inspector Subhash Tiwari on January 20, demanding Rs 20,000 from him, records the general diary of the Leharpur police station of Sitapur district, 85 km from Lucknow.
The report number 34 of the diary, entered by Tiwari, reads: "Ansari called me up on my official mobile at 11:40 am (1140 hrs IST) and demanded Rs 20,000 from me. He also said that I have bought the ticket (for the Lok Sabha polls) by paying money and if you do not give me the money, I will get you transferred to some other district."
IANS has a copy of the report.
Officials refused to comment on the matter.
"The matter is not in my knowledge, I will be able to comment on it only after conducting an inquiry," Superintendent of Police Pritinder Singh told IANS.
When contacted Wednesday night, Ansari said: "How do you know about this? I am in a meeting right now, call me later."
However, Ansari did not answer any call after this.
