Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leader and Minister of State (Shipping) Mukul Roy visited the homes of Maoist-backed People's Committee against Police Atrocities (PCPA) members causing major embarrassment to the Union Government.

Roy visited the homes of two slain PCAPA leaders - Pradip Mahato and Biswanath Mahato - in West Bengal's Jhargram on Monday. Pradip and Biswanath were allegedly killed by Communist Party of India-Marxist cadres in Jhargram a few days ago.

"One cannot get a ration card or job card if they don't support CPM. These boys protested. That is why they were killed by armed cadres of CPM," claimed Roy.

However, the CPI-M claimed that Roy's visit to the homes of PCPA members showed that there was a nexus between the Maoists and the Trinamool Congress.

"The problem is Mukul Roy is not just a political leader. He happens to be member of the Indian Cabinet. He has visited this Maoist's house under the instructions of Mamata Banerjee. He says teh PCPA member was asking for some ration card that is why he joined Maoists. This is very irrational and laughable explanation to be forward by our Union Minister. When this Union Minister, the TMC leader identifies itself as PCPA because both of them are pro-changers and this itself says that Maoists and Trinomool are working together and this is the understanding," said CPI-M leader Mohammad Salim.

Roy is the second Union Minister and Trinamool Congress leader after Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee to be seen publicly with the Maoist-backed PCPA members. Roy said that he visited Mahto's relatives in Nandalalpur on Mamata's orders.
