External Affairs Minster Sushma Swaraj, who is in the line of fire over former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi controversy, appears to be in no mood to give in to the demands of the Congress-led opposition.
The senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hit back at the opposition, claiming that a senior Congress leader made attempts to influence her to help an accused in the coal scam case.
Taking to Twitter over the issue, the External Affairs Minister claimed that a senior Congress leader pressed her to give diplomatic passport to coal scam accused Santosh Bagrodia.
"A senior Congress leader was pressing me hard to give diplomatic passport to the Coal Scam accused Santosh Bagrodia," said Swara, adding that she would "disclose name of the leader on the floor of the House".
This comes a day after the Congress-led opposition gunned for Swaraj in both Lok Sabha as well as Rajya Sabha on the first day of the Monsoon Session. The Rajya Sabha witnessed as many as four adjournments on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the Congress is likely to file an adjournment motion on Wednesday demanding a discussion on the Madhya Pradesh multi-crore Vyapam scam.
Congress is also planning to hold a silent protest against the government on Wednesday in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament House complex with party president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi at the helm.
The Congress has been demanding the resignations of Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje over Lalit Modi controversy.
The opposition party has also been demanding the resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, insisting that a fair and impartial probe into Vyapam scam is not possible without his removal.
However, sources within the Congress claim that the party is divided on the approach that should be adopted in Parliament. While one section feels that it is too early to demand resignations of BJP ministers in the house, another faction feels that they can't back down now.
