Lucknow: Congress president Sonia Gandhi arrived in her parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli on Wednesday and met senior officials to review the developmental projects in the district.
She met family members of veteran freedom fighter Gaya Prasad Shukla who passed away recently. Shukla was also a close associate of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Later she arrived at the party district headquarters to review the ongoing developmental programmes in the area.
IANS adds:
"Soniaji is presiding over the Rae Bareli district vigilance and monitoring committee to review the central government-sponsored development projects," Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh told reporters in Rae Bareli.
"The meeting that began around 11.30 a.m. in the Collectorate Office will continue for three-four hours," he said.
According to some Congress activists, the party president may make surprise inspections in some villages to evaluate the execution of the projects.
Gandhi will return to New Delhi in the evening after meeting party activists.
