The ruling Samajwadi Party’s (SP) mega silver jubilee celebrations started in Lucknow on Saturday with JD (U), RJD, RLD leaders shared the stage with Uttar Pradesh's first family.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) began its mega silver jubilee celebrations in Lucknow on Saturday in the presence of JD (U), RJD and RLD leaders who shared the stage with the first family of Uttar Pradesh.

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav arrived at the venue and welcomed the leaders along with state SP president Shivpal Yadav in what seems to be an attempt to put up an united front after two weeks of internal squabbling.

Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, RLD Chief Ajit Singh, JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav, Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala, KC Tyagi (JD-U) and noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani are some of the prominent names present in the event.

Earlier, SP state president Shivpal Yadav, said, “Only Samajwadi and Lohiawadi leaders are present here to share the stage with ‘Netaji’ (Mulayam Singh Yadav)”.

“Let this event get over, we will get engaged in further talks about alliances,” he added.

On the context of alliance with Congress, he said, “No discussion on this has happened so far.”

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stayed away from the event due to the chhat puja celebrations.

“I have personally told Shivpal (Yadav) about this as right now chhat puja is being observed in Bihar. When Mulayam Singh Yadav ji called me, I explained him the reason behind me skipping the event. I would have definitely joined the celebration had the date not clashed with chhat puja,” he had said.
