Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of betraying the people who voted for him in General Elections 2014.

Addressing mediapersons outside Parliament on the third day of the Monsoon Session, the Gandhi scion demanded that the Prime Minister must break his silence on Vyapam scam and the Lalitgate controversy, involving External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

Mincing no words, the Congress leader directed his attack at Prime Minister Modi, saying, "People of this country did not give the mandate to Sushma Swaraj. They voted because they felt they could trust PM Modi. But now when he is choosing to be silent on all the issues, people feel that they are being betrayed."

"Over 40 people have died in the Vyapam scam, and the Prime Minister has not spoken a word about it. He needs to break his silence," he added.

Terming the act of Sushma Swaraj to help former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi as a "criminal act", Rahul Gandhi said that there can be a discussion only after she resigns as the External Affairs Minister.

This came even as Parliament continued to witness a washout on the third day of Monsoon Session as well. While the Rajya Sabha witnessed repeated adjournments, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day shortly after noon.

While the government remained defiant saying 'disrupt of discuss, there will be no resignation', the opposition was adamant on its demand for 'no discussion without resignation'.
